South Florida Tow Company Owner Craig Goldstein Sentenced to 15 Months for Tax Evasion from PIP Kickback Scheme

Craig Goldstein of Boca Raton, former owner of a Lauderdale Lakes towing company, was sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of tax evasion for underreporting income from a Personal Injury Protection kickback scheme and other cash-based fraud, according to the IRS Criminal Investigation division. Goldstein had failed to pay federal tax on money received through the scheme.

Operator takeaway

The IRS traced PIP kickback income that the owner did not report — cash-based fraud schemes leave trails that federal investigators are specifically trained to follow.
