Maryland Expands Move Over Law to Cover All Vehicles Displaying Hazard Lights or Warning Signals

Maryland's Move Over law expanded on October 1, 2022 under bill SB 0147 to require drivers to change lanes or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares, or other caution signals including traffic cones and non-vehicular warning lights, according to Zero Deaths Maryland. The expansion went beyond the previous requirement that applied only to emergency vehicles.

Operator takeaway

Maryland now requires drivers to move over for any vehicle with hazard lights — a broader Move Over law means more consistent driver behavior around your truck on every call.
