Florida Expands Move Over Law to Cover All Stopped Vehicles with Hazard Lights Effective January 1

Governor DeSantis signed HB 425, which expanded Florida's Move Over law to include any disabled vehicle stopped with hazard lights on or with emergency flares or signage, effective January 1, 2024, according to the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Department. The law previously covered only emergency vehicles, law enforcement, and tow trucks.

Operator takeaway

A broader Move Over law means more drivers are trained to change lanes for any stopped vehicle — including yours — which reduces your roadside exposure on every call.
