St. Louis Resumes Booting and Towing for First Time Since 2018; City Collects $50,000 in Unpaid Tickets in First 10 Days

The City of St. Louis resumed booting and towing vehicles with delinquent parking tickets for the first time since 2018, collecting more than $50,000 and booting nearly 30 vehicles in the first week and a half, according to FirstAlert4. City Treasurer Adam Layne said, "That was going light," and noted that any vehicle with four or more matured tickets is eligible; towing costs $100 plus $25 per day in storage.

Operator takeaway

Seven years of dormant enforcement and $10.7 million in uncollected fines. If your city has a similar backlog, this is the proof that the revenue is there when a treasurer decides to act. Operators with municipal towing contracts should be watching for similar restarts in their markets.
