Texas Repo Operator Sues Competitors and Former DRN Vice President in Dallas Over Alleged $1 Million LPR Data Theft Scheme

The Car Source LLC, doing business as HNS Recovery, filed suit on April 6 in Dallas County's 191st Judicial District Court against Collateral Recovery Team LLC, Stealth Towing and Recovery Services LLC, and former Digital Recognition Network Vice President of Operations Nasem (Naz) Akel, alleging the defendants used backdoor access to a proprietary license-plate-recognition data system to suppress recovery hits and divert repossession opportunities, according to CURepossession. HNS is seeking more than $1 million in compensatory damages plus punitive damages, attorney fees, and profit disgorgement; the allegations are unproven and the case will proceed before a Dallas jury.

Operator takeaway

The complaint alleges a former vendor employee enabled backdoor access to recovery data after leaving. Audit who has credentials to your LPR, dispatch, and recovery systems, and revoke access on the day a person separates, not the week after.
