99 Towing Industry Members Take Priorities to Capitol Hill; FMCSA Administrator Stays for 90-Minute Meeting

Ninety-nine towing industry members representing 31 states attended the Towing and Recovery Association of America's annual Hill Day on February 25, 2026, meeting with members of Congress to advance four legislative priorities, according to Tow Industry Week. The legislative agenda included size and weight exemptions for heavy-duty towing operations, roadside operator safety, electric vehicle incident response capabilities, and insurance availability for tow companies. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Administrator Captain Derek Barrs met with attendees for more than 90 minutes and personally spoke with every participant. The event grew from 72 to 104 registered participants year over year, with sponsors increasing from 10 to 17.

Operator takeaway

The FMCSA administrator staying 90 minutes and personally meeting every operator in the room signals the agency is listening — if the EV response and weight exemption bills advance, they will affect every fleet in the country.
