The Myrtle Beach City Council approved a first reading on April 28 of an ordinance that would raise the standard non-consent tow fee to $225 from $160 and the Class D heavy-vehicle fee to $500 from $250, the city's first towing-rate change since 2012, according to WMBF News. Quality Towing & Service Center owner Rick Rahner told WMBF the increase reflects rising business license, property tax, and operating costs, and said current rates are "way behind times."
Operator takeaway
Myrtle Beach is the latest jurisdiction documenting a multi-year cost gap to justify a fee adjustment. If your non-consent schedule has not changed in five-plus years, this is comparable evidence for your own rate petition.
