Kansas City Man Charged With Second-Degree Assault After Tow Driver Was Shot in the Abdomen During Dispute Over Riding on the Flatbed

Ezekial Z. Doss, 33, was charged with second-degree assault after a Kansas City tow truck driver was shot in the abdomen during a dispute over whether Doss could ride on the flatbed with his disabled 2021 Dodge Charger, according to Platte County Circuit Court records reported by KCTV5. The driver required emergency surgery after officers responded to NW Mokane and NW 70th Street around 2:10 a.m. on April 4.

Operator takeaway

A routine "no passengers on the flatbed" policy put a driver in emergency surgery. Review your passenger policy with every driver on staff. If the answer is no, the driver should never be in a position to negotiate it alone at 2 a.m.
