Bailey's Towing hauled a wrecked 2026 Lucid Gravity, with more than 6,000 lithium-ion cells, from a March 31 toll-plaza crash to its Merrimack yard with a fire blanket on it, then relocated the vehicle the next morning, according to New Hampshire Public Radio. Within 15 minutes the battery shorted and went into thermal runaway; firefighters used roughly 60,000 gallons of water because foam and blankets do not extinguish lithium-ion fires.
Operator takeaway
Every yard taking EV wrecks needs an isolation pad away from buildings and other vehicles, plus a written re-ignition watch protocol for the first 72 hours. Do not move the vehicle without a plan.
